Re: Tired

As I write these words (March 18, 2020), the whole world is in varying degrees of crisis. My little corner of the internet feels especially inconsequential in times like these. However, I need to bring closure to some stuff for my own peace of mind. Hopefully, by the time this is published, the worst will have passed.

I've decided to suspend posting here and put the Owariverse back on the shelf. Faithful followers might recall I did the same thing in November 2018 right before Tumblr's radical change in policy drove me from their platform. The move back to Blogger reinvigorated my interest and creativity for longer than I would have anticipated, but I'm kind of back to where I started.

There are pieces in my archives which still conceivably could find a place here. This isn't everything by any means. This is just all I plan on including here at this time. It tells the story of the Owariverse as I currently envision it. I'm proud of all the content posted here over the last 18 months.

Thank you to everyone who has supported my art and my characters over the years. Though this phase of my online life is ending, I am leaving it open for the foreseeable future. And who knows? There's always the chance it could come roaring back to life with more antics from Captain Satellite, Shelly Ericson, and friends (and foes). This may not be the end at all!

Signing off from the Owariverse, wishing everyone the best!

"Electro Bob"

“Electro Bob”

“Electro Bob” was originally posted July 31, 2007, but its date of creation is unknown. It was just a doodle which took on a life of its own and became quite elaborate. It inspired other creators to such a degree that the character design was eventually drafted into the Owariverse. "Killer Volt" was the first pass in 2015, but eventually this was revised to "Killer Invisible" in 2019.

Adam One

Adam One by BB. September 2015.

Adam One (番アダム Ichiban Adamu) is an original character (with an obvious influence from Tetsuwan Atom/Astro Boy) created by BB. The greatest (and so far unrepeatable) success of Dr. Isamu Yoneda (米田勇博士 – Yoneda Isamu Hakase) was Adam One. Originally designed as a companion for orphans, Adam was stolen by a doomsday cult and upgraded into a war machine. Doctor Yoneda and a horde of servitor robots and puppets stormed the cult’s compound and saved Adam. While Yoneda removed most of the gear the cult had packed into Adam, he left the rocket boots and finger laser intact at the robot boy’s request .

Yoneda and Adam have a “family” of half-bright robots and puppets which sometimes cause as much trouble as they solve.

Doctor Hikari Jono (条野光博士 Jōno Hikari Hakase) and Doctor Isamu Yoneda (米田勇博士 Yoneda Isamu Hakase) are wholly original creations of BB. Jono is the creator of Super Thing 56 and grandfather of Saki Jono. Yoneda is the creator and father figure of Adam One.

Super Thing 56

Super Thing 56 by BB. September 2015.

Super Thing 56 (スーパーシング 56号 Sūpāshingu Gojū Roku-gō) is both a parody of Tetsujin 28-go/Gigantor and a revised and updated version of a robot called “the Thing” which appeared in a Blue Tracer story published in Military Comics #12 (October 1942) by Quality Comics. (There’s also a little Devo in there.) He was invented by Dr. Hikari Jono (条野光博士 Jōno Hikari Hakase) and is controlled by Japanese schoolgirl Sakiko Jono (条野さき子 Jōno Sakikō). You can just call her “Saki” (さき) for short.

Based on “the Thing” created by Fred Guardineer, which is now in the public domain. “Super Thing 56″ art and character © Pete M. Kowal.

“Dirk Dixon - The Man of Tomorrow” by Igadevil. July 2005.

Dirk Dixon is a parody of Golden Age space heroes who was originally created as an adversary for the Return of Jetman series. As some of you may have noticed, he has been incorporated into the Owariverse mythos as a fictional character like Cat-Man or the Deacon. He was designed by Igadevil.

To Be Continued

To Be Continued

A thank you to everyone who has supported this revival of the Owariverse. I consider 2019 a success in whipping this back into shape. Not bad considering I had completely shelved everything in November 2018.

The current plan is to take some time off to recharge the batteries and map out the direction for this year. I have no idea exactly how long this hiatus will be, but it is not intended to be permanent. There's still a lot of content left to republish!

Happy 2020!
