A (Highly) Logical Commerical

I try to avoid embedding too many videos here, but this happened a few hours ago.

Or you can watch it here instead.

That is a commercial for Cheer detergent featuring Dick Gautier as Not!Spock. The date I came across for it was 1969. I have no idea if that's accurate, but it must be in the ballpark. After all, I can't see such a blatant rip-off flying after the mid-1970s.

I am actually really taken by the transporter FX used in this, and by Gautier's channeling of Leonard Nimoy. Too bad he (apparently) was never called on to play a Vulcan for real!

  1. Back when Gene Roddenberry tried to revive ''STAR TREK'' on TV(before ''STAR TREK:THE MOTION PICTURE''),Gautier would've been an eminently logical choice to replace Leonard Nimoy, who at that particular time wasn't too keen on playing Spock again. Thanks for posting this clip,Chris.

  2. He does a surprisingly good job at the role, considering there isn't a lot to go on or a lot of time. You're welcome!
